Don’t get us wrong. We have the capabilities to do what is truly metal cutting, which is machining along with mass finishing, high polishing, various types of grinding, and even lapping. But despite that, at Metal Cutting Corporation our core capability is the cut off of tight tolerance, small metal parts. We are a precision cut off company at heart.
Our History as a Cut Off Company
Since the beginning, back in 1967, we have specialized in meeting the tight tolerance cut off requirements of customers across a wide range of applications, including medical devices, electronics, automotive parts, biotechnology, semiconductors, aerospace, fiber optics, and much more.
Over the years, we have perfected our skills as a cut off company, adding capabilities and acquiring an extensive inventory of in-house equipment for abrasive cut off, as well as related grinding, lapping, polishing, turning, EDM, and metrology capabilities. But even with our array of machining, finishing, and fabrication services, including EDM cut off, we have never left behind our original and core competency, which remains the abrasive cut off of small diameter metal parts — with all of our proprietary cut off machines delivering tight tolerance, burr-free results for precision manufacturing needs.
Some of Our Cut Off Capabilities
As a precision cut off company with a virtually bottomless toolbox of capabilities, Metal Cutting handles parts made from all metals, from non-ferrous metals including tungsten and molybdenum to ferrous alloys such as stainless steel, to newer nickel- and titanium-based alloys. We are the single-source cut off company for many high-tech device manufacturers, working with specialty metals, micron tolerances, low and high volumes, complex metrologies, and other highly demanding requirements.
Working with small parts of virtually all compositions, the parts we cut may be long, but most often they are short — often VERY short. In fact, we routinely achieve cut off lengths as short as 0.008” (0.20 mm) with length tolerances down to 0.001” (0.025 mm); yet, on cut off lengths over 6.0’ (2.0 m), we also hold remarkably tight tolerances of ± 0.005” (±0.125 mm).
Over the years, we have earned our reputation as a cut off company by expertly handling wires, rods, and tubes with diameters ranging from 0.0005” to 3.00” (0.0125-75.0 mm). Working with all types of solid metals, we utilize proprietary processes that excel at high Cpk and Ppk tight tolerance cut off parts. For precision cut-to-length tubing, we deliver cut off tube in lengths as short as 0.006″ (0.152 mm) with tube walls or inside diameters (IDs) as thin as 0.001″ (0.025 mm) — and we do the cut off without damaging the tube’s concentricity and filling or contaminating the tubing ID. Even coated tubing can be precisely cut to length without damaging the coating and while maintaining the cleanliness of the ID, with no heat affected zone and, again, no damage to concentricity.
