Metal Surface Passivation Services

Passivation is a non-reactive surface treatment that creates a barrier against corrosion by shielding the outer layer of the base material. The treatment is commonly used for stainless steel parts to prevent rouging and other forms of corrosion.

The passivation process involves ultrasonically cleaning parts of any contamination before placing them in an acidic bath that meets the temperature and chemistry requirements. Parts are then neutralized using a bath of aqueous sodium hydroxide, followed by rinsing and drying.

Metal surface passivation processes are controlled by industry standards. At Metal Cutting, we offer both citric acid passivation and nitric acid passivation performed according to the latest ASTM A967M standard. We also can perform any necessary testing as required by the customer.

Metal Sandblasting Services

Metal sandblasting is a process that propels fine bits of material at high velocity to roughen the surface finish of a part to enhance bonding. A common application for sandblasting is preparing a metal tube to be used for plastic injection molding.
Metal Cutting has a dedicated facility that provides a full range of metal sandblasting services. Our multiple sandblasting machines can handle a full range of grit sizes and can be used to roughen parts to any adhesion requirement. We sandblast from 32 Ra roughness and higher, and we can treat an entire abraded part or roughen differential portions of the part. Our masking techniques enable us to offer metal sandblasting services with tight dimensional tolerances.
