Metal Cutting offers an extensive array of metal finishing services as a final preparation of the part after cutting.
With our extensive metal finishing services, including abrasive processes as well as EDM and turning, Metal Cutting can produce metal parts with a variety of surface finishes.
When you require the ultimate in surface finishes, we have specialized machines that produce surface finishes as smooth as Ra 0.010 metric. For more information, visit our Custom Metal Polishing Services page.
Adding a Radius
To eliminate sharp edges in your part, Metal Cutting offers metal radius machining as one of our metal finishing services, with a wide range of lathe turning capabilities of not just diameter but also with the efficiency of bar loading and automatic swiss style capabilities.
Metal Surface Passivation Services
Passivation is a non-reactive surface treatment that creates a barrier against corrosion by shielding the outer layer of the base material. Passivation is commonly used for stainless steel parts to prevent rouging and other forms of corrosion.
Passivation processes are controlled by industry standards. At Metal Cutting, our metal surface passivation services follow ASTM A967M-13, the latest standard. This standard provides for the following types of metal surface passivation processes:
- Citric Acid Passivation
- Nitric Acid Passivation
The passivation process involves ultrasonically cleaning parts of any contamination before placing them in an acidic bath that meets the temperature and chemistry requirements. According to the standard, parts are then neutralized using a bath of aqueous sodium hydroxide, followed by rinsing and drying.
Metal Cutting is fully qualified to perform both citric acid and nitric acid passivation processes according to the ASTM A967M-13 standard, and can perform any necessary testing as required by the customer.
Metal Sandblasting Services
Metal sandblasting is a process that propels fine bits of material at high velocity to roughen the surface finish of a part to enhance bonding. A common application for sandblasting is preparing a metal tube to be used for plastic injection molding.
Metal Cutting has a dedicated sandblasting facility that provides a full range of metal sandblasting services. We have multiple sandblasting machines that can handle a full range of grit sizes and can be used to roughen parts to any adhesion requirement. We sandblast from 32 Ra roughness and higher, and can treat an entire abraded part, or we can roughen differential portions of the part. Our masking techniques enable us to offer metal sandblasting services with tight dimensional tolerances.
Fast Facts About Metal Finishing Services:
- We can add a radius from typical corners such as the common range of 0.002” (0.05 mm) to 0.008” (0.20 mm) and beyond, all the way to a fully rounded end radius with no flat surfaces at all.
- We perform passivation according to the latest ASTM A967M-13 with both citric acid and nitric acid available.
- We sandblast from 32 Ra roughness and higher, masking specified minimum and maximum protected dimensions.
