For precision lapping of tubes and solids, we have the skills, experience, and know-how to deliver the tightest length tolerances, the smoothest end finishes, and unmatched flatness and parallelism for your metal parts needs. Our extensive inventory of equipment enables us to perform flat lapping, honing, and polishing of all metals, meeting the tight tolerance and surface finish requirements of a wide range of applications.
Flexibility and Precision for a Wide Range of Needs
We offer small parts production using virtually any metal, to satisfy a broad array of manufacturing needs and demanding specifications. Our 12 machines, spanning three different types of lapping equipment, give us the capacity to fill large orders, as well as to provide specialized performance, easy setup, and fast turnaround for small batch needs. Offering both one-sided and two-sided metal lapping, we have the flexibility to deliver high precision lapping of a wide variety of small metal parts, for customers with a diverse range of applications in the electronics, automotive, power transmission, semiconductor, electrical, biotechnology, and medical fields.
For small metal parts with exacting tolerances, our custom lapping techniques can correct surface irregularities and achieve exceptional flatness and parallelism. Both solid parts and tuthat arebes, including thin wall tubing and long length components, can be processed to achieve significant improvements to their surface finishes with no heat-affected zones — achieving a Ra 2 microinch (Ra 0.050 μm) end finish. Our leading-edge equipment holds length and thickness tolerances down to ± 0.0001” (0.0025 mm). All results are verified by multiple in-house LVDT systems and computerized profilometers.
Our Expert Lapping Process
Our entire process is designed with precision in mind, allowing us to achieve consistently high levels of quality while minimizing unwanted variations, waste, and budget overruns. Based on your application and goals, including the type of metal you’ve chosen and your specifications, we carefully control every aspect of production, including the speed and flatness of the plate, as well as the material the plate is made from; the pressure on the workpiece; the size and type of abrasive used; the feeding method used; the method of charging and conditioning the plate; and the plate temperature.
Together, all this attention to detail enables us to tailor our process to each customer’s needs, to deliver the flatness, fine surface finish, and uniformity that ensure the optimum results for the application.
Our Leading-Edge Equipment
Our inventory of rugged, dependable lapping machines is designed for both efficiency and accuracy, with advanced CNC capabilities that help our technicians complete every order with maximum speed and precision. Constructed of heavy gauge materials and high-quality electrical components, our machines are also exceptionally sturdy and well balanced, making them highly suited to the production of flat and parallel parts.
Our double-sided planetary lapping and polishing machines provide tight control of thickness, flatness, and parallelism, with the planetary movement removing equal amounts of material from both sides of the parts simultaneously. Other features include non-rotating top and bottom plates, a variable-speed outer ring gear and center sun gear drive, and down force that is generated by a free-floating top plate. These features allow us to deliver consistent, reliable results for a broad spectrum of precision lapping requirements on parts that are thin and fragile, as well as on parts that have a high aspect ratio or a low surface area.
All our lapping machines employ servo-controlled down force and advanced drive technologies for high efficiency and a precise level of control. This enables us to meet the gamut of needs from aggressive material removal to delicate handing of fragile parts that require a “light touch” in material removal. In addition, we custom-make our own lapping carriers for wafer processing and other applications, for more precise control over thickness, process speed, and part design. Adapting our carrier to your specifications for form and fit, this extra level of customization helps to minimize total thickness variation (TTV), improve processing, eliminate edge damage, and reduce overall costs during lapping or polishing — which in turn all help to ensure the quality and integrity of the parts we deliver.
