With 5-axis CNC machining and 7-axis CNC machining among our expert skills, Metal Cutting offers a wide array of multi-axis machining services to meet your tight tolerance, small part needs. We have years of experience in high-precision, high-volume CNC machining of a complete range of metals, including our specialty, titanium. Even with complex designs and challenging materials, we have the equipment and know-how to deliver parts to your specifications, to meet your needs from prototyping through ongoing production.
Capabilities in 5-Axis CNC Machining and 7-Axis CNC Machining
Our versatile multi-axis machining capabilities are powered by our Citizen Swiss-style automatic lathe equipment that supports up to 7-axis CNC machining. Our experience in CNC programming, as well as in project planning and process management, helps to keep production streamlined, efficient, and consistent, to ensure optimal quality and on-time delivery for your parts.
Primary processes include turning, boring, drilling, hexing, milling, slotting, and threading. In addition to our multi-axis machining center, we have the expertise to support a full range of secondary processes, with a wide selection of in-house equipment including Haas mills, Hardinge lathes, Chevalier surface grinders, and multi-stage robotic ultrasonic cleaning systems. We also have vast experience as mass finishers for your deburring and polishing requirements. Our machinery combined with our machining skills and years of manufacturing experience enable us to perform a wide range of tasks.
We also have a full lineup of inspection equipment to ensure that your parts meet your specifications. Our OGP SmartScope VED system and Zygo interferometry equipment permit accurate and reliable multi-axis dimensional measurements. We have multiple 16-inch software-driven optical comparators with digital readouts (DROs). Throughout our facility and inside our QA lab and our cleanroom, we have Laser Link, Beta, and single- and double-axis laser micrometers. Surface finish is measured by both non-contact and contact equipment.
Supporting a Diversity of Industries and Applications
With our extensive experience in multi-axis machining, including 5-axis CNC machining and 7-axis CNC machining, we satisfy the need for precision components in a wide range of applications, serving markets such as electrical/power grid, electronics, semiconductors, hydraulic, pneumatic, fastener, automotive, scientific, military, aerospace, and mechanical. The millions of small parts we make every year include fittings, valves, spools, plugs, backshells, electrodes, pin connectors, plungers, pistons, spring pivots, crimp sleeves, end caps, drive shafts, feedthroughs and flanges, housings, welded assemblies, headers, connector blocks, cover screws, and set screws.
In addition, we are continually expanding our micro-machining capabilities, which require skills in not only CNC machining but also in securing the tiny parts to be machined. Our expertise in this area allows us to meet the needs of a growing diversity of precision small part applications, especially in the medical device industry. We can micro-machine screws, fasteners, shafts, spacers, fittings, valves, and other parts for use in devices such as pacemakers, defibrillators, drug delivery systems, catheters, pumps, respirators, ventilators, and various device housings and assemblies, as well as medical and orthopedic implants.
Our Skills in Working with Virtually Any Metal
Our expertise in 5-axis CNC machining, 7-axis CNC machining, and other multi-axis machining processes extends to our ability to work with the complete array of materials, allowing you to design parts in the material that will deliver the best performance for your application. Our deep understanding of material properties and the characteristics of multi-axis CNC machining enables us to select the process that will produce the proper tolerances whatever material you use, including the many different grades of stainless steel, titanium, aluminum, brass, and copper, and precious metals such as gold and platinum/iridium alloys. We also have expertise in materials including the heat-resistant nickel superalloys like Inconel, Kovar, and Monel, as well as specialty metals such as niobium, tantalum, and molybdenum.
